Architectural
discription
124 Crocker Hill Road is a modern
two and one-half story frame house with a neo-Victorian design.
The design of the house draws upon the Queen Anne style that was
popular in the late nineteenth century and characterized by irregular
masses and roof lines, often featuring turrets, polygonal bays,
and other decorative structural features. 124 Crocker Hill Road
features a generally rectangular footprint beneath a prominent hipped
roof that bristles with gabled dormers of various sizes. A dominant
gable with a recessed pediment containing a triple window flanks
the left side of the main roof, while a secondary pedimented gable
projects from it above a three-sided polygonal entrance bay. A smaller
gabled dormer rises from the right side of the front roof, with
an additional dormer projecting from the side roof. The house features
an asymmetrical four-bay façade with an off-center double
wooden door within a projecting polygonal bay flanked by tripartite
windows, while the second floor façade contains a double
door recessed within the polygonal bay flanked by two double windows
on the right and a triple window on the left. A one-story open porch
spans the façade, with square fluted columns supporting a
flat roof that, with a balustrade, serves as a second-story porch.
A two-story porch projects from the house’s left side beneath
a steeply-pitched gable roof, with fluted square columns at both
the first and seconds story levels. An internal end stone-clad chimney
rises on the left side of the house, while a smaller external end
chimney, also clad in stone, rises along the projecting porch on
the right side. A one-story hyphen at the rear of the house’s
left side connects to a large one and one-half story two-car garage
beneath a tall front gable roof, with timber framing in the gable
and a large dormer on the left side.
The house is set on a rise overlooking
a pond with a walkway leading to a one-story boathouse complex.
A simple shallow gable roof supported by slender square wooden columns
provides a covered gathering spot with an open dock that is cantilevered
above the water’s edge. An adjacent small building, with a
single door and tripartite window, provides interior seating. The
gable roof of this small building extends beyond the side roof overlooking
the pond to form an open porch that leads down a small set of stairs
to the boat landing.
